Top Accessories For Bow Hunters In 2026 – Turkey Season Edition

Axcel Sights
This year, we’re seeing Axcel Sights take the top spot for scopes and sights. These adaptable bridgelock, picatinny, carbon, dovetail, and accu-touch are all a matter of personal preference and seasonal game. If you’re looking to hunt turkey in northeast Florida this year, our customers tend to rely on Axcel Picatinny models.
Axcel Archery is a newcomer in the archery world and is a brand based solely around archery accessories – mainly sights and scopes. As another small business that shares the same passion for archery and enjoying the outdoors as much as we do, we support them by selling their sights in our store and we include them during many setups due to their compatibility with most compound bows on the market combined with a budget friendly price point you won’t find at Bass Pro Shops™

Out With The Old
We have a lot of carry over bows from previous years and bows that we have setup for our customers over the years. The newest Hoyt models are coming in hot this year and we don’t have enough space to house them. Drop in and browse the selection, some marked down to $500 OR LESS! You won’t find this kind of discount on our Ebay store. Check our archery page for more information on how you can shop our inventory online via Ebay. Alternative payment methods may be available. Call the store for details and requests.

Hoyt or Mathews?
The feud between these two big brands has lead to both creating offshoot brands like Diamond Archery and Bow-Teach just to make ends meet where their clientele are at. We carry several different brands of compound, recurve, and crossbow at affordable price points for virtually everyone, Your skill level does not matter when you enter our store. All that matters is that you’re here now and you’re ready to put the outside clutter to rest and enjoy the freedom of hunting the old fashioned way out in nature. Whichever bow you choose, setup is included in the total cost so that you leave fully outfitted for your first or 37th hunting trip with friends and maybe family – regardless, we’re just happy to be a part of it in a small way. You can leave our store confident that your next hit will be a 10 pointer.

Seeing Is Key, But Foresight Is Forever
While we recommend Axcel this year, we carry many name brand sights and scopes in the shop. You will find less of a selection this year compared to last, though many brands can be found at a discount along with last year’s compound, recurve, and crossbows. More expensive models are found in the back of the shop where we offer a range of services to make your next hunt more comfortable, from stringing to repair for major name brand models. Walk ins are just fine – no appointment necessary. Pricing varies depending on job, materials, and labor.
What About Broadheads?
The best broadheads for turkey season depends more upon your draw compared to the size of the animal and what kind of impact you’re typically looking at. We recommend RAGE™ Turkey Mechanical Broadheads if you are expecting the turkey to put up a fight or may have less experience hunting turkey and want to be able to track it if it gobbles away. Mechanical broadheads can be excessive for these birds in spite of their size. Alternatively, for more experienced hunters with more force behind their draw, Beast™ Broadheads Decapped and Magnus™ Bullhead Fixed Blade broadheads for those who may have less confidence hunting turkey or less draw weight. You can’t rely on the broadhead alone, however. We craft and offer custom fletching service in store for perfect ammunition to pack in your quiver this turkey season,. Make sure you review all current and updated licensing information, particularly if you are hunting in Florida and are not currently a resident. There have been several changes recently to the law that may effect those coming down to enjoy turkey season while on location. Maybe we will catch you if you stay down at the Vilano Beach Holiday Inn Resort!
Navigating New FWC Regulations 2026-2027
Overview of 2026 Changes
-
Changes to non-resident permits and quotas
2026-2027 changes disabled the purchase of permits online by non-residents. Non-residents may also be subject to permit quota caps and other restrictions. Phone permits may also be restricted to resident only purchases and limits.
- Youth Spring (resident) Turkey hunting season extended 4 days Fri-Monday
- Non-residents now required to purchase annual permits for turkey hunting.
-
Airbows now included during muzzleloading / crossbow season
Airbows were not classified for usage restrictions previously, but are now regulated during the same season and restrictions as crossbows and muzzleloaders. See your specific region for seasonal parameters.
-
Changes / Additions to WMA Zones
-
Circle Hook Restrictions
Circle hooks and non-stainless steel hooks are relegated for use depending on area and game when fishing in the Atlantic. View restrictions for specific fish on the map or visit the FWC website

2026-2027 Regulation and Permit Guide
If you have been running around online and off trying to plan your 2026-2027 vacation based around Florida’s outdoor recreation opportunities, you aren’t alone. Snowbirds, transients, vacationers, and locals alike have found that the methods they have been using for years to register and apply for permits have changed. In addition, the FWC has introduced new regulations for certain areas that will charge the way the 2026 – 2027 hunting season looks. If you’re planning to book a charter or shore fishing tour or you’re hoping to nab a black bear this hunting season, this article will help ease the pain of pre-planning your trip while navigating these changes.
Download The New Guidelines and Rule Book from flrules.org
View Interactive Hunting Regulations Tool
Back in February (2026), the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved rule changes that apply to the 2026-2027 hunting season and included more specific regulations around Wildlife Management areas and Wildlife Environmental areas. Some of the areas have also been opened to hunters starting back in 2025 and apply to current season’s regulations, including a new area in St. John’s County on the roster for local hunters.
FWC Boundary Maps
The biggest item on this list to note is that the process by which you may obtain your permit as a non-resident may have changed since the last time you were in Florida. The option to purchase a permit online has been completely disabled, but you would only come to realize this after navigating through the FWC site to the online permit purchasing platform that shows the disclaimer regarding online purchase for non-residents. To date, it is unclear if permits may be purchased or arranged by phone.
Unfortunately, the way the FWC has chosen to relate this information requires some work only to find out that a process you may have performed a thousand times over the years is no longer an option for you in 2026.
MYFWC – All Information
There also have been some major changes regarding plus ones, bag limits, and permit quotas when it comes to non-residents. If you plan on hunting and/or fishing and you’re from out of state, the best advice we can give you is to take a look for yourself to ensure that you have a seamless, headache free vacation. The links we have provided here will open in a new window.

2026-2027 Regulation and Permit Guide
We have you covered when it comes to navigating new regulations for the 2026-2027 hunting and fishing seasons, whether you’re a local resident or non-resident planning a vacation here in Florida. Misconceptions and inconvenient updates have made this season more of a headache than many of us are used to – particularly if you’re coming from out of state. In an effort to make your vacation as painless as possible, we have provided information here relevant to the local area as well as quick links to key pages for purchasing permits and reviewing regulations.

Major Changes of Note
The most major changes to make note of for Hunters:
- New Hunting Areas: C-44 STA (Martin County), Deep Creek (St. John’s County), Dinner Island Ranch – Caraca Unit (Hendry County), Green Heart of the Everglades (Collier County), Lake Apopka North Shore (Lake County), Rice Creek (Putnam County)
- These lands fall under special regulations that are designated when registering in the respected area. Discuss your options with your Florida hunting permit provider when planning your hunting trip.
- Anterless deer opportunities have expanded outside of the WMA system in hunting zones B, C, and D. Youth spring turkey hunting season has been extended to 4 days (Friday – Monday) for spring break hunters and family hunters looking to bring along a greenhorn.
- Airbows are now ALLOWED during crossbow and muzzleloading season (outside of WMA lands).
- Non-resident Permit Restrictions: Non-resident hunters and fisherman MUST apply for permits in person as online purchases have been disabled. You may purchase permits by phone in some cases, but limits on non-resident Permit purchases have been imposed for all seasons.

Important: Charters & Permits
For those of you that have booked fishing charters: your charter booking includes necessary permits needed for offshore fishing and thus, any reputable Charter Captain should have a valid permit that covers all participants in the fishing trip under one license. This specifically applies to offshore charters.
Fishing Tours By Charter: If you have arranged for a fishing tour by foot or at a specific waterway, you may need to purchase permits to fish that would not be covered by the charter captain. Most captains will alert you if this is the case, but many may not currently be aware. We encourage you to ask your charter captain any questions regarding licensing, permits, and compliance if you wish to take part in any of the activities we mentioned to save yourself a headache once you’re already set up to go fishing.
St. Augustine Marina Inc does not issue permits or licenses. Fishing permits to fish on the Vilano Beach Pier are included in admission costs / if renting a fishing kit. You may also stop in the shop and ask one of our associates if you have any questions or concerns.
We will continue to keep everyone updated on current regulations, news, and season changes here, but we also advise everyone to save or bookmark the links provided so that may easily check any changes to regulations as they come up in the future.

Shrimp, Sailfish, and More This Season

Shrimp Season Is Underway, Last Quarter Fishing Looks Good Through October
Whether you’re looking for dinner or tournament fishing, we’ve got you covered from the moment you step into our store until you land your first bite. As we go from the third to the final quarter of 2025, the seasonal offerings are looking better and better!
St. Augustine Marina offers a variety of services in-store to keep you out on the water or on the trail this season, from bow repair, restringing, fletching, to rigging and rod repair. St. Augustine Marina carries specially made, handcrafted cast nets by the foot for those looking to try their luck catching shrimp, traps for crab and lobster, as well as a variety of synthetic lures and rigs designed for your catch.
Fishing rods, reels, tackle, and other fishing and boating accessories aren’t our only offerings here at St. Augustine Marina. We have a little bit of everything for anyone who is just crazy enough to beat the heat and spend time in the sun doing what you love!
The Kings of the Currents - Tarpon & Sailfish
Tarpon are also caught often during this time of year, particularly in the inlets and along the beaches for those who like to stick a rod in the sand, with populations peaking throughout July and August in the area.
Sailfish can also be found just offshore trolling with live or dead bait, kite fishing, fly fishing, or pitch baiting.
You’ll want a lighter or medium rigged (4 -15kg / 2.205 lb) set up for landing Sailfish and a bit of patience as they tire easily, so you’ll want to allow it some more time in the water to guarantee survival. It’s worth it, however, if you can land one of these beautiful fish!
If you see pelicans or seagulls diving, you might catch one of their shimmering fins or silver scales in the mix.

Make sure that you’re up to date on catch and release protocols, size and weight limits, and permit requirements for fish mentioned. You can find the updated guidelines from the FWC here.

For Land Lubbers - Bow Hunting & General Hunting
Located here in northeast / Central Florida, St. Augustine falls under Zone C guidance from FWC. Zone C covers the area from Seminole / Volusia counties up through to Madison and Jefferson counties in the panhandle before the cut off for Zone D begins.
Need ammunition? Lures? Custom fletched and designed arrows and broad heads? We have got you covered!
You can find details specific to your region (if you plan on going abroad or staying local) and permit information here. As well as bag limits and restrictions.
Make sure to review any changes here, as they are regularly updated each year in response to changes in local game populations, breeding, and rezoning.
A Quick Reminder!
Don’t forget to get your outboard engine squared away during the off season or before putting her back into storage. Our outboard service department will perform winterization to protect your engine when it’s not chugging water.
Be safe out there – we wish you the best of luck!
Fishing In St. Augustine, Florida Is Great This Time of Year!
We would be misleading you if we didn’t add that fishing is ‘great’ all year round here in St. Augustine, Florida.
Whatever you prefer – nearshore, inshore, onshore, or offshore – whether you plan on contracting a charter closer to the end of the year when the water cools off or enjoy trolling shore-side or casting a line off the Vilano Beach Pier.
If you’re planning a trip down to the beach, pier, or out in your boat, you can take advantage of sites like
or FishBox
to receive real time location based updates on what is biting, where it’s biting, and what the weather will be looking like throughout the day. The reports are based on location data collected by users out on the ground, confirming what is biting and where so you can plan accordingly!

Come In Our Store And Get Set Up Right
As we mentioned this time back in 2024, shrimp are the primary focus this time of year and are relatively easy to catch with a cast net or hand net.
The optimal time to search for them is at dusk and early evening in the shallows, using a flashlight to reflect off their eyes. We’ll be nearing the end of the season shortly, so make sure you get a net out if you are in the mood for em. Otherwise, there are plenty of fantastic seafood restaurants in St. Augustine and Vilano Beach that offer shrimp cooked perfectly just the way you like them.
For those looking beyond the bottom-feeders for bigger game, there’s plenty to be found considering how warm the water off the coast has been these last few months.
We have frozen bait available for those looking for a hassle-free and fee-free experience off the Vilano Beach Pier. Whether you’re a beginner learning to throw a cast net or cast a line, we have everything you need to elevate your fishing game.
We offer affordable complete fishing kits priced better than pole rentals, perfect for family outings, and our staff is eager to assist you with rigging your line. August through September provide excellent opportunities for fishing off the pier, beach, inlets, or docks.
Chartering isn’t necessary unless you’re chasing bigger game!
In the coming months, you can expect to catch trout, spotted trout, redfish, and flounder throughout the season.

Zone D Dates & Regulations
Deer season for compound and recurve bow hunters will start on October 25th and ends on November 26th 2025.
Crossbowman will be able to join the hunt October 25th and end on November 26th with a 5 day break between the extended season, which starts for an additional few days beginning December 1st 2025 and December 5th 2025.
Another thing you will find in our hunting and archery showroom is muzzle loaders – ammunition, accessories, and units. Muzzle loaders fall under the same guidelines and dates as Crossbows, which also covers airbows, with the season start date on November 27th.
General Gun season begins November 26th November 30th 2025 with a break after the end of November before starting again on December 13th 2025 through the New Year to February 22nd 2026.
The daily bag limit this year for horned deer is 2 per day with a possession limit of 4 deer total. The annual limit is set to 5, where only two deer are permitted to be antlerless.

Save yourself from worrying about parts and labor cost during this ‘cool off’ time – right before the summer busy season.
Tariffs imposed by other countries in response to those set by the US government are set to take effect over the next few weeks, with a brief reprieve in which those who are savvy can get their maintenance and repair work done while it is still generally unaffected.
The marine industry is greatly impacted by changes in trading regulations and tariffs.
A 10 percent baseline tariff is set to be imposed on all imported goods, regardless of origin, with higher rates on specific countries that fluctuate as each side continues to make adjustments while allowing for negotiation.
The summer has always been a rough time for getting repair work done if your engine just happens to decide it doesn’t want to take that fishing trip or make that vacation a reality.
With changes in the economy and tariffs, this is bound to complicate the season. We always recommend scheduling regular maintenance during the off seasons and keeping up with that schedule to ensure there are no surprises out on the water.
If you are the owner of a boat with an outboard engine or boats and multiple rigs, then you will definitely feel the impact of this alleged trade war, whether you notice it with in-store price increases when purchasing and ordering parts and marine supplies, or see it when you receive your service invoice.
St. Augustine Marina has made no official announcements or changes regarding our own pricing, as we are all just waiting to see what ultimately comes from these changes.
This is why now, more than ever, we encourage you to take advantage of our knowledgeable and experienced techs in our service department. We specialize in Yamaha® and Evinrude-Johnson® parts and service, with certified technicians available for both manufacturers.

Fishing The Winter Season in Northeast Florida – Tackle & Bait Recommendations

Fishing In The Northeast Florida Region During Winter
Wahoo is the main target fish in December for this part of the Atlantic, but you’re likely to catch more than just wahoo on your fishing trip, even with the recent weather fluctuations affecting tournaments and charters. Sheepshead are another prized fish for those casting off a charter and Sheepshead can be delectable when properly cooked and prepared – fresh, of course.
If you’re looking to land a Wahoo or Sheepshead in spite of the weather, you may still be in luck. Our Offshore Fishing Room has tackle, lures, rods, reels, line to facilitate your trolling session offshore. For frozen bait, look for frozen mullet. Fiddler crabs can also make for live bait in a pinch if you can find them. Walk through any of the creeks and wetlands near the intercoastal and off Anastasia Island or Crescent Beach and you will find these critters scampering around the shoreline en masse.
While deep sea fishing is most popular during this season, that doesn’t mean that you won’t catch anything worth its weight nearshore, inshore, or off the coast – even those fishing off the Vilano Beach pier can expect to pull Redfish and Bluefish, which are in excellent supply this time of year.
If you’re looking for real time information on what is biting off the coast and offshore, click here and bookmark this page for continuous real time updates on target fish of the season and weather.

Florida Sportsman Recommendations
Image Credit / Florida Sportsman, Captain Roger Bump
Florida Sportsman writer and avid angler, Captain Roger Bump, frequently discusses seasonal fishing and local fishing tactics, weather, insights, and locations – even stopping by to interview locals and the staff of St. Augustine Marina back in May.
His forecast for the season focuses on the weather patterns that have ultimately caused some issues for those that have booked charters in hopes to land their own biggest catch of the season. Even tournament participants have been affected by the cooler waters and choppy surface waves.
He advises those in search of Wahoo and Sheepshead to look for charters that focus on the areas where the warmer waters of the Gulf meet the cooler waters of the Atlantic, near wrecks and inlets where they can be found grouped together.
If you want to land one of these energetic species, you will need stamina and to perservere through thrashing and jumps. Make sure you arrive to your charter or go out on your own watercraft prepared for the day. St. Augustine Marina staff are knowledgable and are happy to help match you with the perfect rig while also rigging and setting up your fishing kit in store.
If you haven’t gone offshore before, stick around and don’t hesitate to ask questions. For those of you experienced fishing offshore or that have been out on many charters, we perform rigging, lure repair, and rod and reel repair services in store so that you can get back on the water as quickly as possible.
Not only that, but our winter sales are in full swing with discounted items across all departments. If you aren’t sure what to grab, gift certificates are always available in every denomination.
The E-Bike For Hunters QuietKat – Electric Off Road Bikes
The E-Bike For Hunters QuietKat – Electric Off Road Bikes

Introducing The Quiet Kat Off Road Electric Bike
St Augustine Marina is thrilled to offer the Quiet Kat all-terrain electric bike and we can’t imagine another vehicle perfect for navigating the historic coastal byway, zipping down the sidewalks and side streets of downtown, and cruising the beach when you aren’t taking this fat tire e-bike off road in the country.
If it surprises you that we carry a few of these at all times, it shouldn’t. Quiet Kat is known for dependable, off-road electric bikes with all the features you would want for your next hunting and fishing trip. We also carry accessories and parts to maintain your QuietKat and other electric bike modes if you have already made your purchase.
Electric bikes are obviously not for everyone. They do not have fuel capacity like a dirt bike. Instead, the battery is charged by pedaling the bike. The more you pedal, the more downtime you can have on a single charge.
In addition to the model shown here, St. Augustine Marina has access to the full catalogue of QuietKat fat tire e-bikes, parts, accessories, and models. We will be more than happy to get you set up with the perfect fat tire e-bike for your purposes, confidence, and budget the next time you stop by our store. Ask one of our staff to assist you with a viewing of what is currently available in the back.
Features and Benefits
QuietKat redefines outdoor adventures with its umatched lifetime frame warranty, impressive battery capacity, and robust motor designed to conquer even the steepest inclines with ease and minimal effort.
Proudly crafted in the USA in Irvine, California, the QuietKat outshines traditional dirt bikes and ATVs by offering greater versatility and a friendlier price point. Its lightweight aluminum frame design ensures that anyone can ride it comfortably—if you can pedal a bike, you can master an electric bike.
If you’ve been eyeing an off-road vehicle to traverse your preferred hunting spots, ranges, and game trails, your search ends here.
With attractive financing options available, you can start your journey now and pay later. Come in our store with your pre-approval and we will get you squared away!
In addition to what we mentioned before, electric bikes don’t require DMV registration in the state of Florida nor special licensing, making them accessible to anyone aged 16 and older.
For younger riders, we offer covered wagon attachments and trailers at St. Augustine Marina for family adventures with an adult behind the wheel. As fishing and boating season winds down and autumn and winter hunting seasons approach in northeast Florida, consider the benefits of exploring rugged terrain on an electric bike equipped with off-road tires and a GPS navigation system that tracks distance and battery life, ensuring you have everything you need to reach your destination—perhaps just an added light for those nighttime excursions.
Did we mention they offer a 15 day trial period for new purchases?

Everything You Need & Need to Know - Shrimp Season 2024
Other Options For Catching Shrimp
If you’re new to throwing a cast net, don’t worry—there are plenty of alternatives you can explore, and you might even have a dip net ready to go.
If you own a boat, this can be a great option. After anchoring in a prime spot, set up a lantern, spotlight, or other light source at the bow, and wait for the telltale reflection of the shrimp’s eyes signaling the perfect moment to dip your net and catch them as they drift downstream.
You can also consider push nets attached to a pole for dredging the bottom while wading, haul or beach seines that are less than 500 feet long, and frame nets with openings not exceeding 16 feet. While traps require more regulation, they can be quite effective, especially when enhanced with bits of cheap processed meat or even dog / cat food.
Additionally, using poles to bait shrimp is an option, but be sure to check FWC regulations regarding the number you can deploy and the necessary markings for compliance.
Keep in mind that the rules around nets and traps vary, and obtaining a saltwater recreational license is essential for enjoying the season.
Grab Your Cast Nets - It's Shrimp Season
Shrimp season lasts from the end of June and through the beginning of November in St. John’s County. (Check FWC requirements and regulations here.)

Deer Hunting Season 2024
Deer Hunting Season 2024
Blow The Dust Off Your Compound Bow & Crossbows For Buck Season
Back in May, Ernie and Bubba from The Part Timers Hunting channel stopped in after hours to unbox and try their new Mathews LIFT compound bows in the Bow Center, gearing up for this deer hunting season.
Depending on your zone (we’re located in Zone C), you can expect to start bow-hunting bucks between August and October, with antler-less deer season beginning August 3rd. You can find a complete list of season start and end dates with specifications on the Florida Fish and Wildlife website as usual.
Now, we have no doubt that you have all the gear that you need – and luck– that you’ll need to land a 10 point buck this season, but just in case you missed a few items when you wrote up your ‘seasonal game shopping list’ we have a few recommendations you can consider next time you’re in town and get a chance to stop by St. Augustine Marina’s bow department.
Check Strings For Wear & Tear
Depending on how often you shoot your bow (or not), you might want to restring your crossbow or compound bow before heading out this season, especially if it has been a while since you have been out in the field.
Take a look at the strings of your bow and check if they look fuzzy, frayed, or brittle. If so, you may want to bring it in – we will restring and tune your bow for you while you wait. Most manufacturers recommend you replace your bow strings every 2-3 years – sooner if you hunt often (about ever 2000 -2500 shots, but who is counting?) This video by PJ Reilly goes over what indicators you should be on the look out for.
Broadheads
If you are an avid bow-hunter of small and large game or just starting out, you may want to consider swapping out your broadheads this buck season. When hunting larger game like deer, you want to ensure a good blood trail from a precise (damaging) shot.
Fixed blade broadheads are more reliable and durable than mechanical broadheads, though mechanical broadheads have their strengths, fixed blades can work with virtually any game and provide the crippling effects mechanical broadheads can without the moving parts and price tag. It will ultimately come down to your own experience and comfort level. This article from MeatEater breaks down the best broadheads for hunting large game / deer – regardless of your choice, we can help get you set up.
Keep It Simple
Sure, we have everything you could possibly want and need to kick off deer hunting season but consider your purpose and budget. Every item you take out into the field with you has to be transported, assembled, or fastened somewhere on your body which isn’t ideal when you’re trying to move through the brush as stealthily as possible.
While it may be tempting to load up a big pack or bring several scopes, tree stands, mounts, etc. unless you have a caddy, think about the terrain you will be navigating to track your game.
Experience and gear make little difference if you can’t keep up with your dinner (or scare it off jangling around out there!). Our staff will be happy to set you up with the essentials on your budget and at your level of comfort – no BS – and with a little luck, you will bag yourself an award winning, feast-worthy, kill this year!
